10 Things I Love About You

We had a fun Labor Day. Reed woke up early. We ate breakfast and then worked on organizing Reed's closet. After a while we went to see Uncle Bubba and to eat at Famous Dave's. It was delicious.

After lunch, we headed to the mall to get a few things and to check out any Labor Day deals. Uncle Bubba got a few new shirts, I got a much needed belt, and Abbey got some sunglasses.

After the mall, we went to Uncle B's. Reed and I took a nap while Abbey and Uncle B went to see a movie. We had supper with Britton and his parents. We had a very nonlaborous Labor Day.

One year ago tonight, our blog was counting down days. That was days until we finally met our son. I felt like it was only fitting that we do another countdown. This time the countdown will be "10 Things I Love About You." As we approach our one year Reediversary, we are reminded of how blessed we are.

10. I Love the way you smile.

Reed's smile was elusive in EVERY single picture that we had of him prior to our gotcha moment.

In a way, it was kind of fitting that even though we weren't going to be around for some of his firsts, we would have a very definite "first" time we would see him smile. Fortunately, we saw him smile almost immediately upon meeting him for the first time.

Since that amazing moment, Reed has blessed us with more smiles that we ever knew were possible.

On that trip, nearly one year ago, we were amazed at how much Reed would smile at us. Even though we were still strangers to him, God had given him peace about who we were.

Reed has such a wonderful smile and one of the funniest ones are his "posed" smiles. Although it is clearly fake, it is also absolutely precious.

Reed loves to smile and play with his Mama, Daddy, best friends, and family.

Reed smiles with his eyes and smiles with his face.

When you see Reed, he is most likely smiling.

Even when he's upset, it's hard for him to go very long without cracking a smile. He also knows that his smile is hard for us to resist when we need to discipline him. We're getting pretty good at ignoring it, although I think it is probably whe it is the sweetest!

So, my dearest son, one this 10th day before our one year anniversary of being united, I want you to know, I love your smile. I love the way you smile at your mommy and me. You brighten up our lives and so many more!

How amazed we all were when we saw the first smile the minute you and Abbey picked Reed up from his stroller and his face lit up. When his early pictures would arrive, there was just a wonder at the absence of any smile. In some of them there was this pondering look that seemed to say,"Why don't they hurry and get here?" And then that day, when he came off that plane and looked at his Enna and Poppy and grinned from ear to ear. Reed, you won our hearts in a very big way on that day. We love you dearly and to hear you speak our names in such a sweet way, oh my, GOD IS SO GOOD!!! Love, ENNA

Jeff, you made me tear up with that walk down memory lane! I know what you mean about the elusive smile. Holly's updates were exactly the same way. Fortunately, they have both made up for lost time, haven't they? I look forward to the countdown of days!

Btw, you should be crowned the CVS-ing king! Does this obsession drive Abbey crazy or make her just shake her head in wonder at the things you bring home? ;)
