The Corner!

Reed had a new experience today. Many of you offered excellent advice about how to get Reed to stop throwing his sippy cup.

After supper we were playing in the living room and Reed threw his cup. It was empty and I really wanted him to pick it up and give it too me, so I attempted a time-out on the couch.

After a minute or so, I gave him another opportunity to give me the cup. He picked it up and threw it again.

This time, I put him in his high chair for a couple of minutes and then explained to him what I wanted him to do. Once again, he threw the cup.

This time, we put him in the corner in his Bumbo chair. He sat there and pretended not to be bothered. After a little bit, I once again explained to him what I wanted him to do. This time, I modeled for him what I wanted him to do, by passing the cup to Abbey.

Once again, it didn't work. So, once again, Reed ended up in the Bumbo. This time, we learned why they recalled the Bumbo chairs a while back because he twisted and turned until he fell out! Then, I modeled for him by passing him his cup.

Finally! He understood and he passed me his cup!

The only issue with the whole discipline thing was that Reed was so funny while he was trying to get out of the Bumbo seat.

We did pretty good at not laughing though.

Being a parent is hard, but it is so much fun!

My Busy Day! by Reed Land

Today was a busy day! I went to see my daddy at work where he plays.

I liked helping my daddy play at work. I think he plays funny games. His games aren't as fun as mine.

Daddy plays games like typing on his computer which is he quick to point out is a MAC, but aren't they all computers? There aren't even games on it. He also writes in green ink on lots of papers.

I showed daddy this pink frog and told him it would be more fun to play with it.

My daddy has lots of Bibles. The Bible is a special book and my daddy helps boys and girls learn that.

I helped daddy organize his files.

He has a lot of files!

Daddy let me play with a cool packback.

I had to tell my Daddy that I found a file that was out of place. You would think he would know the difference between Summer 2009 and Winter 2009. Gee-whiz!

Then I went to visit all of Daddy's coworkers. I think they like me.

I liked Mrs. Klista's office.

Then I went to see Miss Candace. She has an M & M ministry. It's yummy!

Daddy's floor recently got new carpet and paint. It's so much nicer!

I went to see Mrs. Pat, but she wasn't there today.

Then I started talking a lot in the hallway and I attracted a lot of attention.

I got to see Uncle Bubba.

Then, it was time for me to go home so I told Daddy bye-bye and gave him a hug.

Tonight we went to a cookout at Britton's grandparents. Laura was there and she was a lot of fun.

I got to wear my monkey leash because there was a pool and Mommy and Daddy didn't want me to jump in.

Laura took really good care of me.

Mr. Brandon is so cool. I'm glad he is my best friend's daddy. He likes 80's music and that's some good dance music.

I love my life!

I Love You!

Reed hears us say several things each day. One thing that he hears a lot is "No!" I am sure that many of our "reed"ers are used to telling their little ones this all important word.

Lately, Reed has also been hearing, "Will you show me that pretty smile?" Partly because it is so goofy and cute as evidenced in the pictures above, and partly because Reed is such a happy little guy.

Reed also hears "Can I have my toothbrush back?" because he absolutely loves our toothbrushes and he is totally not afraid to take one out of the drawer and walk around "brushing" his teeth.

Reed also hears, "What do you want for breakfast?" like he did this morning when we went to our Sunday morning regular Hardees.

Of all the things that Reed hears, I think that the thing that he hears the most is "I love you." Abbey and I are not afraid to tell Reed we love him repeatedly. Each night, as I am rocking him to sleep, I also finish up our little time together by saying, "I love you buddy, I love you so much."

So far, Reed has not returned the "I love you" verbally, but it is quite evident in the way he beams when he sees us, or by the way he reaches for us for no apparent reason right in the middle of playing. He loves us and boy do we love him! How about you? What words do your children hear daily? I hope that you are quite liberal in the sprinkling of "love you's" throughout your child's day.

Finally Something I Can Throw!

Tonight after we got home from supper, I worked in the flowerbeds a little bit. I was deadheading the flowers and Reed wasn't really interested in helping me as he generally is more interested in pulling the fresh pretty ones. Anyway, I decided to get this sandwagon out of some of the VBS leftovers in the garage.

At first he was just playing with the sand and then all of a sudden I heard him laughing.

I looked over and he was throwing the sand in the grass and laughing hysterically!

I quickly grabbed him and dusted him off and ran to the door. I put him down ran upstairs and grabbed the camera. I ran downstairs, grabbed Reed and headed back outside. Reed was happy to start throwing his sand again.

You can tell from the picture that it was ALL over him!

I think that I have found a new babysitter while I am working in the yard. I bet Abbey will probably use the sand sometimes too!

By the way, did you notice the cute M & M's shirt Reed has on. That was a gift from Miss Candace! It is so cute!

Friday Night Update on Saturday

Sorry for the lack of update last night, but we got in WAY too late! But, before I tell you about what we were doing, will you take a look at how Reed reacted to Abbey not going to get something he threw?

Some of our most dear friends in the entire world are the Spicklers. Unfortunately, we don't get to see them nearly as much as we used to. We've been really busy, but we made certain plans that we would spend Friday evening with them.

Putty Sprinkles had a great idea for supper. We would go downtown to Joe's Crab Shack and walk over the walking bridge. Unfortunately, the walking bridge was closed due to a private event, so we settled on eating at Joe's.

Reed LOVED the music at Joe's and he clapped at the end of EVERY song.

Guess what Reed is looking at?

He was staring at it pretty intensely.

... And as long as we were there, they only danced once and it was WAY less than stellar. I guess they were too busy last night.

Since the walking bridge didn't workout, Putty had a better idea. He remembered that we could go to the Nashvegas City Hall and play in the fountain.

Look at the daredevil playing in that fountain!

How come Abbey is the only one that is not wet?

We had a great time with our friends and we are going to try to do better at getting to see them.
